After much saving, salivating, and soul searching, my laden box of bronze from Jamestown Distributors arrived yesterday. Question #1 the new Apollos are so stiff I can't move the handles without some sort of mechanical advantage. Should/can they be lubed ( not with graphite) ? Can they be made easie...

I had. The same situation with my rudder tube. I tried squeezing the 1.5 inch Buck Algonquin hose down to the smaller size with hose clamps, but didn't trust it. I ended up getting the best exhaust hose I could find with 1.25 inner diameter. Just keep an eye on it, which you should do anyway. My rud...

Re: odd shaft taper
I double checked prop bore and it matches the shaft fore and aft. The prop, a Vetus, is unique in two ways: the hub is about 3/4 inch shallower than the prop I took off and the blade tips are swept aft to a higher degree. As it is, the prop fits my boat with the blade tips ending up in about the sam...

The story goes like this: old prop had been painted with bottom paint by a previous owner and was no good. A prop was found on ebay, so I held my breath and bought it. When it arrived I discovered it was machined to a non-standard shaft taper profile. new gap resize.JPG The thing is: the new prop fi...

I purchased Buck Algonquin shaft log hose to replace the rudder tube hose, but the Buck Algonquin comes no smaller than 1 1/2 inch inner diameter and my tube is 1 1/4. For an unladen boat to sit lower in the stern is not uncommon. Some figure these boats are designed to deal with anchor chain weight. Added weight in the chain locker will get her back on her lines and probably help sailing and pointing ability too.
