I wintered at Brewer's South Freeport marine for 2 years and last year for the first time wintered in my driveway. Brewers was GREAT. Tom, I've enjoyed your articles on Christmas...beautiful boat. I noticed you had no downhaul on the tack of the spinn. What was controlling the luff tension? That would also help power/depower the sail. We use the ATN Tacker (collar that goes around furled up genny and holds tack of sail and the dow...

great tips Charlie...for the jig saw I was considering using it to cut planks and the transoms for the Nutshell Pram (but the transome edges are angled/beveled at around 30-48 degrees...it sounds like, in your opinion, that a bandsaw would do better (the transom pieces are not that big...10-20 inche...

Minimum shop power tools for building dinghies
I am setting up a makeshift shop for building glued lapstrake prams (Nutshells) in my basement and a 12' John Brooks dinghy next summer (set up in my garage). The power tools I would eventually like to have are the usual dream tools but this winter for my Nutshell Pram i need to go bare minimum for ...

Folks, Well, while I am off to boatbuilding school in a week, I still wish to set up a small, makeshift shop in my basement to build a Nutshell Pram that we now need for next season. "Our" beautiful Dyer dinghy -- that was not ours -- is no longer with us...the damn owner wanted it back. A...

Did my homework and I willl be going with a POLYSULFIDE to rebed my chain plates. Is one BRAND better than another? 3M vs. LifeCaulk for example. Also, is a slower or faster cure going to give me the best seal? (Slow cure?).

Does insurance require yard to do repair?
I am wondering whether to have the yard do my repair work or do it myself. I looked at my insurance contract and it does require an estimate from the yard but not sure if that means the yard must DO the work for full coverage. Any one know based on their experiences?
Cheers.
