Looks like a Herreshoff Goldeneye...Or maybe a Marlin. Not sure a goldeneye has a dead light, but it's about the same size as a Typhoon.

Yeah, my boat still has the original foam flotation forward and aft, but I'm not sure I'd trust it to keep my boat afloat. It might be saturated. But it's there, and I hope I never have to test its utility.

Re: Alternatives to the Pearson Ensign?
Due to a failed bilge pump, I once arrived at my mooring after a storm to find water up to the benches on my Ensign. Other than a flooded outboard stowed under the cockpit sole, the boat was otherwise fine. Didn't even look close to sinking. The old flotation on my 1965 boat might be a little suspec...

I had a similar issue, with water intruding from the area around the lifting eye. I drilled a couple of 1/2" holes in the the base (underside) of the keel, about 2 feet aft of the point where the keel gets horizontal. A bunch of trapped water rushed out. I left it for a couple of months, plugge...

Hi- That first photo is actually from my boat, Allegra - #998. I briefly put her up for sale a couple of years ago, as I was searching for a cruising boat. As a guy who once owned an O'Day 22 with the fixed shoal (1' 11") keel, I can offer a little personal experience. I'll tell you, it wasn't a very good sailing boat. In fact I nicknamed her the "side slip special". It was very tough to head to weather, and generally a sloppy sailor - e...

Now you've got me curious about the Albin Cumulus... Even though it's frac rigged, looking at Bluenose's table, the 100% jib is still 53% of the total sail area? Must be a really short boom.

Last year, I stripped away 20+ years of bottom paint on my Ensign. I used PeelAway 1 (the stuff from the Home Despot), and it worked just fine on fiberglass/gelcoat. Over the winter I removed the bronze rudder shoe on my Ensign so that I could remove the rudder for repairs.
