Re: Hi y'all! Meet my baba.
Hi there - Discussions of 24' boats catch my eye. Congratulations, your Dolphin is a sweet looking little cruiser. Just for yuks, I did a comparison on this SailCalc site (link below) and I was amazed at how closely the figures for the Dolphin matched up with my 1968 Paceship Westwind (a Ted Hood de...

Mike, hey, buddy! I have about a 3' section of brand-new teak toerail that was left over from the Westwind, yours if you can use it. Thanks, Duncan - I'll take a look this week. That fellow in the maroon shirt in one of your photos - is he one of the boat restoring brothers from RI (can't remember ...

Wow, that looks a lot like the damage I found inside my older Westwind. Little by little, as I got more familiar with the boat I could see irregularities and then badly done repairs to the coaming, deck joint, cabin side and hull on the port side. The liner isn't cut open like that, but when I stuck...

Ahhh the Morris boats - I have to attach the drool cup when I see a picture of one of those. Haven't seen one in person yet. As to the retro thing, they're doing that with Triumph motorcycles now, too. Always loved the way they look, heard they were not so dependable. Now solved with modern technolo...

Coincidence? I saw this Wianno Senior on EBay earlier this week.
Not plastic, and a bit of a project but thought I'd post this link.
Gorgeous little boats. Apparently there was a catastrophic fire in Osterville, MA in 2003 . . . ?

Re: 43 mile Singlehanded Race - Should I?
On that jibe, the shackle that holds the mainsheet block to the traveler car broke. I was able to grab the mainsheet and hold on to it while I turned the boat head to wind. Fortunately, I did not break the gooseneck. I tied the mainsheet to the two jib cleats and pulled the mainsail off. When I wen...

Re: On-board tool collection
Duncan, I'll agree that I got a lot of use out of a non-electric drill. We didn't have a bit-and-brace aboard, but actually just a light-duty plastic "Fiskars" hand drill. It worked for 90% of the uses we had and kept us from having to unearth the power drill very often. Rachel I agree - ...

Not sure that it does. I think I saw a mention in some thread that whatever gear position throws the shift rod down (probably forward) will make a connection on the linkage accessible. The more I realize the importance (Duh!!!) of a reliable motor, I begin to think I might drop it off at the dealer ...

Outboard Lower Unit repair
I'm doing some repair work on my "B" motor - an old ('77) Evinrude 9.9 I need to remove the lower shift rod from my non-functioning lower unit to put into a good lower unit that I just picked up on EBay. My old E'rude is a long shaft - newer lower unit is from a short shaft. Question is th...

I agree about the grinder. I've been doing carpentry for about 30 years now, and didn't get one of those until about 4 years ago. I should've bought one a long, long time ago. An incredibly versatile tool - grinding, sanding, cutter wheels for metal and masonry - go right out and get one. I've got a...

But a bilge plug is not like a seacock . . . Even then, it's subjected to only rotational force in plane with its mounting flange, and in shear with the fasteners, with none of the moment arm-type or longitudinal force that can be applied to a sea valve. I think this is the most eloquently written ...
I hadn't noticed the "2" designation - could that mean that this boat is perhaps an improved version of the first? God forbid!Tim wrote:Now I might just possibly have seen it all. Good lord.
The name is funnily appropriate. Flagrante Delicto. Is it scary that this is #2 of this namesake?

Kris - Ted Brewer had an article in Good Old Boat last year comparing the relative strenghts of galvanized wire vs. SS - I'll see if I can find it. There was a factor for upsizing the galv rigging to make up for different (read 'less') strength. I have a friend who lived/sailed on the west coat (of ...

One of the best bits of advice I got from boatwise friends wasn't about the boat itself - it was about use. They said that making the boat easy to use was the key to enjoying it. In my case, this meant keeping it at a slip in town so that even if I just had an hour or so to spare I could get a littl...

My condolences
Sorry to hear about the end of the season for you northerners - this is my first season and I'm hoping to leave Ikey Boy in all year. I've sailed with a friend on New Year's Day a few times in the past, and I'm looking forward to doing it on my own boat this year. Really liked those rail-down photos...
