Re: Filling the prop shaft hole

That's the good, the bad is they are dirty beasts and suck down fuel like it was 1957:) But I really look at it as an Aux, not a motor that I'd run 1000 miles down the ICW or something. I'll be on a mooring so I plan for this motor to see very little use. If I ever do opt to be a motorsailor then a ...

Re: Filling the prop shaft hole

, the only problem was I really needed a long shaft which is why I replaced it. I got lucky and found this one with a long shaft installed and the short shaft in a box with a spare(old) carb. Also this motor had a factory upgrade to a suction fuel pump, whoo hoo no pressure fuel tank needed:) I hav...

Re: Filling the prop shaft hole

If you have an outboard, you'd better not mind paying other people money to repair it and maintain it. I prefer to fix things myself and my outboard drove me mad. In 40 years I've never paid someone else to do work on my cars, motorcycles, boats, generators etc... and if If I go crazy it's my own f...

Re: Filling the prop shaft hole

Yes in most cases that would be an excellent idea, but there were missing pieces and a well worn shaft so I dumped them in the dumpster when the boat was at the yard. Now after some more thinking I might just cut the cutlass bearing tube off, flush with the hull and work from there:) Thanks to the t...

Filling the prop shaft hole

Hello, I'm sure it's been covered somewhere but I can't find the threads. So how would/should I go about filling the prop shaft hole. The Atomic 4 is long since gone and I'm going to use a 10hp outboard. I don't plan to ever fit an inboard. I will eventually fill the prop aperture but not this year,...

Re: Filling Old Transducer Hole

A YouTube video from Jamestown Distributors/West Systems has me confused. The video shows them building/wetting up the new layers of glass on a table, then placing the assembled patch into the beveled hole big circle first . I'm not going to question Jamestown, or West System, but I was thinking th...

Well a little slap slap is a small price to pay for a beautiful boat. I thought I saw a blog or something about a guy fitting out an M-17 for serious off shore work. I’m a little nuts but that’s a few bricks short even in my book:)

That’s the one! Naturally the first boat to really turn my head in many months costs 150K new for 27ft! Heck I checked YachtWorld and a 1978 is asking $45K! But I think that aft cabin is so cool, then I could be biased since my HT is an aft cabin design:) My wife says it all, Champagne taste on a be...

Neat little boat, what is it?

Hi All I saw a mystery boat today that really caught my eye. I took my kayak out, the wind was howling but I keep to the windward shore. Then I see this pretty little boat. It’s 28ft max(kayak measured my boat is 15ft) canoe stern, fake lap strake, bronze oval ports, stern hung rudder with tiller. B...

Yes it's two layers of okume(sp?) that were epoxied together then screwed and epoxied two the boat bottom. It's a very strong piece. We grab and flip the boat using that hand hold without a second thought.

Thanks, that’s exactly what I needed. My dink is a Chesapeake Light Craft Passage Maker Kit. Big brother of the Eastport. I love it but unfortunately when the decision to buy/build came we had a much bigger mother ship, not having learned the small is beautiful message yet. So the dink doesn’t fit r...

LazyGuy; I’m not going to get in to that silly cat vs. mono argument. EVERY boat is a compromise. And I know full well these classic plastics in the right hands will slaughter me to weather. I’m sailing an old cruising cat not a Hobi cat:) But I’ll take am extra 5-10deg if I can get it! feetup; than...

Attaching rub strip under water line?

Hello All, I need to install a rub strip on the bottom of my wood dingy. My dink is coated in epoxy with varnish over the area where I want to install the strip. I’ve heard that people drill an oversized hole and fill with epoxy. I’ve done that with deck hardware but in this case I'm not thru boltin...

Hey LazyGuy, Yeah go ahead rub it in. But while I love Tritons, CD, Vanguards, Renegades, etc, this was the absolute smallest boat my wife would consider for living aboard. Tim, et al... Thanks, this is a great vetting process. Thanks for the feedback. I’ll try to outline my goals at little better. ...

Yep, same type but no roller, she can't point too good as it is:) I'm not sure how to embed a image so here is a link to what my rig looks like. All that teak is pretty but very heavy and not so strong. http://www.3ddev.com/Tschuss/Logs%202006/images/HTinCharleston.JPG I just found a better pic of t...

New Member, Kevlar, rigging Questions

Greetings one and all! Wow what a great forum. I just discovered is a few weeks ago and have been busy reading. Hope I can join your crowd. I sail what I consider as a plastic classic, a 1977 Heavenly Twins 26. Probably more than a few of you are scratching your heads having never heard of such a bo...
