But I also have a sunfish handy for the moments when I am unwilling to solo my Soverel 28, and looking forward to this summer I MIGHT do projects rather than sailing. Re: 1985 Laser 28
I do love the Laser 28, and I think it is a great multi-purpose sailboat. Using the outboard will make it a more competitive racer, and the big cabin WITH ample cockpit makes the boat a joy for all aboard. Some boatyards don't allow owners to do bottom painting. The one my boat was in last year char...

Re: 1985 Laser 28
I crewed on a Laser 28 for a couple of years. Thought it was a terrific boat--surprising headroom, so you actually have some room below decks, and a very nice layout for racing. You will have some fun--though the LOOK of the Laser 28 is not exactly classic--looks modern and racy.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!

Sheesh. This is EXACTLY what I should have done. I was desperate and cowardly so I looked at the thing and decided to have a mechanic who is VERY good but personality impaired come to look at it. They just don't build quality. After 44 years the (relay or solenoid) on my equally antique MD2B has died. I agree with Rachel. The Rainbows are a great teaching boat, and they make for some good one of a kind racing. They ARE close to indestructible, so that is a good thing. What a great thread! Congratulations on the 50th! My boat spent last year in the inner harbor in Hingham.
