Re: We ordered a new headsail this winter.
When I purchased Early Light (a 1982 Sabre 34 mk I, which is an IOR design with a high aspect rig) she came with a 155%, a 130%, a 100% as well as a cruising chute. During the first eight years I found myself using the 130% almost exclusively. I found it to be an excellent all around sail that I cou...

Re: Ericson 27 Project
I had a similar experience once with a teak veneer chart table on a previous boat. Using a chisel blade in my X-acto kit, I cut out an area in all 4 corners of the chart table and then inlaid these areas with a contrasting lighter solid wood (holly). The effect was quite striking. Also there are pre...

Re: Boat of my youth
Jim,
The only problem with having such a wonderful boat at the age of 10 was that whenever I misbehaved my parents held the ultimate tool for discipline. All they had to do was not allow me to go sailing for a few days. I would have preferred to being stuck ashore any day.

The boat of my youth was a Pup. This was a 12 foot cat boat designed by William F. Crosby. She measured: LOA 12 ft., BEAM 5 ft., DRAFT (board down) 3 ft. 6", SAIL AREA 60 sq. ft. My grandfather (a cabinet maker by trade) built it for me in 1952 when I was 10 years old. I sailed this boat on Sod...

Re: Tuning up ye olde bandsaw?
When adding hull ceilings to my Sabre I used Satinwood (a very hard wood). To resaw it, I used a "resaw blade" on my band saw. I found that feeding it slow seemed to work fairly well. I was trying to resaw to approx 1/4 inch thickness but found that I had to cut to a tad over 5/16 inch and...

Globe manufactures "alignment wedges" which are used in pairs specifically for this purpose. I used them on one of my previous boats with an Atomic 4. Check this site: http://www.a1discountprop.com/globedrivesavers.htm and scroll down the page about 85%

Re: Deisel fuel filters
The earlier Sabre vessels also had a filter screen on the fuel pickup tube. Sabre recommended removing the screen. I also found the pickup tube to be only about 3/32 of an inch off the bottom of the tank on my boat. I cut the pickup tube so that it is approximately 3/8 inch off the tank bottom.
