Re: Basic Rigging Question
I'm launching at the end of the week so I think what I'll do is extend the spreader bar by building a mold onto the end of each spreader, then pour some epoxy thickened with some colloidal silica. Once cured, I'll sand shape to fit the bracket. I wish I were better at molding epoxy. I great solution...

Basic Rigging Question
I found a crack in one of my cast aluminum spreader brackets so I had a new pair machined out of 7075 aluminum. The new ones are cut to fit the oak spreader bars in the same basic shape as the old brackets, except they are thicker and should be much stronger. One nagging issue is that the spreader b...

I've got a friend that uses Jocylins every year, and he is very fussy about his boat, a beautiful Friendship Sloop. I called them, and they quoted very high. I'm wondering if I'm just a little too far out of where they normally work.

Re: Question on Boat Transporters
Thanks Tim. I actually don't remember the name of the guys who moved the boat from Holderness to my home here in Freedom. It wasn't Fays though. I did call CWC, but so far no return call. I'll give him another try today. I'll call Southport Island too. It looks like at I'm a disadvantage jumping in ...

Thanks Tim, I saw that photo, that truck and trailer do look capable. The guys who moved my boat to the house operate in the NH lakes region, and don't cross state lines. Question on Boat Transporters
Hey everyone, I'm in the process of hiring someone to move my boat to the coast, roughly 2 hours on the road. My question concerns transport trailers. I've only got a couple experiences with boat haulers, and generally they were good, and seemed to care for the well-being of the boat. However, last ...

Re: Thin gelcoat on the hull
Dharma, I've chosen to not put on a barrier coat based on reading through 10 years of emails from the Alberg 30 mailing list. http://lists.alberg30.org/pipermail/public-list-alberg30.org/ If you search the archive there's lots of posts on epoxy barrier coats. Thin gelcoat on the hull
I have removed all the previous bottom paint (VC17) and the hull is ready for a new fresh coat. We've decided on Petit Hydrocoat based on the water based formula, price and found it to work well on a friend's boat under similar conditions. The hull looks pretty good overall, I think, except for a fe...

Today was my first experience filling in holes in the hull from removing through-hulls. It all want pretty well and as planned (so far) except for squeeging out excess resin. The air warmed up a little sooner than I expected and the resin got a little thick & difficult to pull out. I'm not too c...

Thanks guys,
I've got the taps. I'll give it a test run on some junk fiberglass first. I might try just a dab of 4200 on the threads.

Thanks Rachel,
The seacocks are all new and look good. The only valve I'm not crazy about is a Vetus Water Scoop (engine intake) and Vetus Ball Valve.
http://viewer.zmags.com/showmag.php?mid=wwqshw#/page84/
Not ideal but will probably stay like that for another season.

Yes..another question on hull blisters
I'll start by saying that in spite of everything I've read on this site and through other sources with hours of searching and reading, I'd like some feedback before I do anything. Here's my situation. I just stripped my hull of VC17 and found some craters from small blisters. There's lots of them, n...

This flaking layer is just on the rudder, the hull is fine..apart from the many tiny little blisters. On the rudder, the red ooze is a mix of red VC17 and stripper which we were in the middle of when we found this flaking layer stuff. For the hull itself, I need to look more closely, but the blister...

Yes that red goo is dissolved VC17 that dripped. We've removed most of the VC17 on the rudder, but the layer that's flaking is white, brittle and 1 to 2 ml thick. The green under it I'm assuming is old paint. It's the white layer I'm wondering about. It can be seen slightly better here: http://lh3.g...

Taking advantage of the warm weather, I thought I'd get a jump on stripping the VC17 from the boat's bottom. I'm using Franmar Soy Strip, it takes the super thin coating of VC17 off with no troubles. However, I found that my rudder is coated with something that's not adhered very well. I'm guessing ...

Hi Everyone. On my 22 foot boat, we didn't generate much trash since we cooked very simple meals, only the occasional night out ect. Trash was easy to deal with. Good source for batteries in Maine or NH
I'm looking to buy two 6V golf-cart batteries, somewhere in Maine (Portland area) or NH.
Battery World in Portland has some brand (not trojan) for $99 each. I've heard such good things about Trojan or US Battery I'd prefer those brands.
Anyone know a good source??
