There is a guy who supplies stainless boomkins for WS'ers. I just prefer the wood. I bought a pushpit from this same man and if I hadn't, I never would have discovered the rot until it failed. I should probably saturate the new boomkin with epoxy....hmm. Britton, a 'wood guy' - ship right told me it...

Oscar, thank you. Jason, I think you are right. I only know of one dark hulled WS - Galena, she's green and I like it. Do you know if they made it green or it came that way. Any and all pictures would be greatly appreciated, thank you. Every other seems to be white, not beige like mine. Dark is far ...

yea, I s'pose you're right. Waiting for the if or when I change the topsides. I'm stuck with the brown ensemble. Not my fave either. I think the boat could pull off a dark hull though, she has 'fullness' to spare! So, Oscar, humor me....show me a or navy hull with with a white boot stripe and white ...

groco through hulls
I have not uploaded the pictures onto my computer yet but wanted to throw this out there. I have the old grocos. In my sanding around them I have found a round hole above and below them. After sanding I was able to stick my nail in there and pop it out. A very large bronze flat head is now visible. ...

color scheme of boot stripe and bottom
This is not happening in the next few days but.... Hull is beige, current boot stripe is brown, bottom is blue - what's left of it. Sailcloth is brown. Bulwarks exterior are brown. Tim, I know you have deep felt opinions on all this. At some point, I'd like to make the hull dark, either green or blu...

So, if it is ablative, which is my suspicion, what's the goal?, get rid of all flakes?, extra coat at the water line? where smooth - just rough it up? I'm sorry for such basic questions. Although I did the bottom of my first boat for 10+ years, I was young and far less into detail and doing it right...

Bottom paint
I'm gearing up (actuallly started today) to paint the bottom. I was wondering as my nose was 5 inches from the hull, whilst sanding, how I tell what kind of paint is on there already. Ablative or not. I ask because (obviously) I want to repaint with the same kind.

I'm back. This weekend is a big one. I'm going to attempt to take off the remaining screws and bolts (they will spin but not lift) from the genoa track on top of the cap rail, then remove the cap rail and then figure out how to proceed depending on what it looks like. Any magic trick to getting thes...

Well, truth be told, I've yet to be at anchor. This year will be a different story. I have 250 (275?) feet of chain - a half barrel. I've read the Pardy books too, my recollection was that they used a fitting at the bottom of the sprit's bobstay. As you know, WS's have an extra hole down there but m...

Anchor sail
Any one have any experience with these? I guess, because of displacement and/or being a double ender, Balance tends to sachet at the mooring or anchor. The more wind the more she likes to move. I've googled myself to death. They are expensive and I can't quite figure out if size matters (or if it's ...

I'm not sure I understand the question because my answer is any body of water that can accomodate her draft. But I think you know that already. Congratulations on your indoctrination to boating. The pulpit is on! More or less. As usual, it is never all that straight forward. Westsailors have this resource out of CA. I will be permanently removing the main sheet hardware from the boomkin. What would be best to fill those holes? It will be mid ...

Puzzling, water down below
I'm on the hard with a canvas cover and last weekend I discovered a small puddle down below at the companionway ladder.
The mast? (did not take it down).

It's the same boat. The guy (Seth) who took the hull renamed her Prodigailas. He had her for maybe 2 years tops. He was in Lake Lanier. Sounds like whoever he sold it to is selling it again? That boat was Gazelle, when we bought Scout, Gazelle was also for sale. She had a lot of damage and was partially repaired. We ended up buying her for parts (the price made sense), we sold the new Atomic, kept the windlass, roller furling and other stuff and gave away the hull to a guy in VA. A year...

I get it, tee hee. I'm not going to yank them out of the hull, I just want to lube it from inside. Just not sure how to disassemble. Seacock maintenance
Is anyone aware of an already made primer for servicing the old bronze Groco seacocks. The levers on some are mighty stiff. (these are the kind with the rubber cones that are no irreplacable).
