Rudder stock tube question

Post by gbraun »

Can anyone tell me what the fitting is? This is a picture of the rudder stock housing, I'm getting ready to cut it open to install a quadrant.

Looks like it might be a grease zerk. You pop on a grease gun on this zerk and shoot grease into the rudder tube.

Just a guess.

I'm sure you've thought of this - but you are aware that once you've cut that tube you'll need to keep water out of the boat through another means, right? Currently the tube is long enough that the top of it is above the waterline (like your cockpit floor) - once you cut it you'll need to install a packing gland to seal things up again.

Sorry to state the obvious - just making sure that it was indeed obvious!
