Bulwark/caprail wood

Post by sboyle_us »

I'm looking into replacing my bulwark/caprail and am looking at various woods, i.e. Ipe, Brazilian redwood or Tigerwood. Has anyone used any of these woods on the exterior of there boat? There will be some bending involved, are there any things that I need to watch for when machining and cutting the bulwark/caprail?

Some ideas...

A lot of north carolina builders use spanish cedar for rub rails and toe rails, as it looks like teak when let to go silver.

Hatteras yachts used to use afrimosia as interior and exterior trim... It smells very raunchy when you machine it...
