I just noticed that too. Anyone remember how hard they hit you for the shipping on say the five gallon resin and gallon of hardener?

Hard. It's like 50 pounds plus hazmat.

Even though you can't get a shipping total online, I've found that if you call them they will quickly give you a pretty good estimate based on what you are ordering. I've also always found their shipping to be fair. Last week they were offering free shipping. A shame the two delas didn't overlap!

I ordered the 5g resin and 1g hardener and a host of other start-up items which came to 3 boxes the size of the resin for $34.17. It's cheaper too if you can deliver it to a commercial rather than a residential address. There were notes on the line items for the varnish, thinner, and hardener that said "*** No Air Shipments ***", but no "hazmat" charge that I could find. It came via Fed Ex...

Kind of a moot point, but 4 gal resin jug. Actually, if you look really close; West epoxy ratio in the 5 gal kit is a hair over 4 gal to a hair under 1 gal.

Yeah, shipping to business locations is cheaper. B and B Yacht Designs where I got my dinghy plans told me I would save a couple bucks having my sail and the hardware I ordered sent to work because the delivery trucks already go there on a regular basis. I also like that there is someone to receive the delivery as well, unlike at my home during the day.

4.35 gallons if you really want to get technical :-) but yeah it makes about five gallons of mixed epoxy in the end.

Save money on the purchase and spend it on the shipping. I think I will just wait until I am driving near one of my usual sources. I can't do much with the stuff this time of year anyway.

One thing to consider when ordering epoxy this time of year is that it's a LOT easier to double-boil a 1gallon bottle of resin than a 4 or 5 gallon bottle, and it's entirely possible for resin to arrive in need of double-boiling because it froze during shipment.

Ask me how I know.
