A great little daysailer just appeared in my marina. I snapped a few photos of it today. It reminds of a Typhoon, but it looks like it has a narrower beam, longer overhangs, and an outboard locker through the transom.
It also reminds me of the Sea Sprite, but the mast is on top of the considerably smaller cabin top and the hull is narrower and longer - particularly at the bow.
The builder's plate is below. I know I should recognize it from that, but I'm at a loss. So, what is it?
Hi, That looks like a MacVay Minuet. They built boats in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia in the 70's. I believe they also built a fiberglass version of the 23' Bluenose class sloop, the Westwind and Eastwind sloops as well as the Paceship line of sailboats. My first boat was a Paceship and I sail around there but I am fuzzy on details. I think I'm getting "squash rot"...

Nice call - I think you're right.
These photos are from Victoria Yachts: Design: Minuet, which has info on the design. It eventually "became" the Victoria 18.
It's sort of fun spotting Paceships/McVays - I came across a Mouette a couple of years ago, just sitting about four boats away from my Westwind.

I think it might be wear on the top of the bronze rudder tube - the tiller on my Eastwind droops a bit because the bracket at the end of the tiller has worn the top of the tube away over the past forty years.
It's a Bluenose sloop, the Minuet's bigger sister. Also built by McVay, designed by William Roue. My second boat was the Bluenose's bigger sister, the Roue R/20 (20' on the waterline) - pics at http://www.ramoak.com/swallow.html
The Roue20 is indeed a beauty. I didn't think that the photo was of a Bluenose since it has a small cabin and my recollections are mostly of the wooden version with has a flush deck. In any case, Minuette,Mouette, or Bluenose, they are all pretty boats. Hey, Northest38, where do you keep your boat? I sail out of the Chester area.
Hi Shoalcove - I keep my boat in Halifax, at the RNSYS. But I've sold Swallow, and bought Weatherbird ( http://www.lecomteowners.com ) - thus the "northeast38" name. Swallow is still at the RNSYS, but her owners didn't launch last year, and may be selling. They started a repair job (Hurricane Juan sent some larger boats past her on her mooring) and she's in a "partial" state at the moment as a result. Could be a good boat for someone that'll fix her up...

I can't say that I know anyone in the market for a Roue20 but hopefully she will find a good home. Your Weatherbird is a real looker and appears in great shape. I always appreciate a source of inspiration as I plug away at refurbishing my Cheoylee. Best regards.
You guys are good! I had no idea. In fact, I've never heard of McVay before.
I really like this little boat. I've been out at the marina quite a bit recently and I've kept an eye on it hoping the owner would show up. If I find out any details, I'll be sure to post an update.
