Deck Recore: How many sheets of balsa?

Post by Zach »

Hi guys...

I want to go ahead and recore the deck on Pylasteki in the next week or two.

How many sheets have you guys used?

If my measuring is correct one sheet ought to do the bow. I think two will do the side decks, but I'm not sure I'm not sure as my measurements don't account for the curve... Three sheets looks about right for just the deck plus a fourth to do the cockpit floor.

Thoughts? (I'm trying to not buy a whole lot of extra, or I'm going to spend my life making light weight parts that really should just be plywood. Help save me from myself... grin!)

How big is a sheet of balsa? The "sheets" I used on my boat were only 2' x 4' each, not 4' x 8' (if that's what you're figuring on).

Yes 2x4 was what I found as well.

Just buy a box. You'll find uses for the leftovers.

I used six standard 2'x4' sheets to recore the foredeck and sidedecks of the Triton Iota earlier this year.

Thanks guys!

(I started out thinking 4x8 in foam, didn't know the standard was 2x4... oops! Grin)
