It was a real no wind day today so we motored again, but we are here at the Tidewater Yacht Marina in Portsmouth Virginia. This marina marks mile marker 0 of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. I'm going to fly home and see my Spouse for a while. Back on the 24th. Kind of funny, started at the Tidewater Marine in Havre de Grace and ended the Chesapeake Bat at Tidewater Yacht Marina in Portsmouth. :)

Hi Allen,

Sounds like a fun trip so far!

Are you heading through the ICW or making the hop on the outside?

If you find yourself headed through Beaufort, NC give me a shout!

Hi Zach,

I'm going to do the Great Dismal Swamp Canal then head to Beaufort NC to visit the North Carolina Maritime Museum, so let me know where we can meet up. I'll probably stay at least a couple of days since I'm kind of a history buff with a special interest in the Golden Age of Piracy and Beaufort has a lot of stuff related to the pirate Edward "Blackbeard" Teach, including the wreck of the Queen Ann's Revenge.

I'm home right now but will be back onboard on October 24th and heading south shortly thereafter.

Way down there? I always felt I was exploring the ICW as I went through the Cape Cod Canal.

I guess I'll have to venture further afield next time :)

Sailing involves the courage to treasure adventure, and the wisdom to fear danger. Knowing where one ends, and the other begins, makes all the difference.

You would think it would start farther north wouldn't you? And, in fact based on this graphic from the COE it doesn't make it to Key West either.
