I got a call from a neighbor asking if I knew anyone who wanted a sailboat before he called the junk guy.
I decided I'd drag it home and see what we could make of it.
This boat has sat outside at least 10 years, under the trees, with sails out in the cockpit and nothing taken care of.
That is not stone....that is non skid with lichen???
Digging out commences:
Hole in the main:
That is a jib:
Growth on the halyards:
Sails actually cleaned up way better than I thought....of course there is the issue of the holes!!
Not too shabby for a free boat:
So far I haven't put a dime into it...but the time to spend a bit approaches.
I still need to find the rudder, tiller, thwart and jib fairleads. (supposedly in the shed at the previous owners place) Compound the deck and hull. Get some tires from this decade. Register the trailer. Get the main sail patched. I am sure a bunch of other misc things...

If anyone has a set of sails for one of these let me know. New suit will be about $1000.00!

Good looking boat. A new set of sails would be cool, and ok used sails are all over the place. What is holding the centerboard on?

I got the local sail maker repairing the main for $60.00.
The center board is bolted into the trunk and has a pennant to rais and lower it. The thwart should have a pair of cleats on it to hold it up or down.

Good looking project; sort of reminds me of my own. I am sure there is more to fixing this boat, than simply scrubing the decks and a 60 dollar sail repair. If that is true all I can say is "have a good time sailing;" as I sit in my living room surrounded by clamps and saws, and sandpaper and countless other tools. :)

Re: Rehab of a Designers Choice 15
The entire list:
Replace tires
Register trailer
New outhaul line (has one on it but it seems too short)
Check trailer lights
New polypropylene line for trailer winch
I am sure the sails aren't too long for this world even in I get a decent repair. SItting out side that long has to create issues!
Hopefully find: (previous owner gets back from vacation this weekend....hopefully I can get in his shed to look)
Tiller
Rudder
Thwart
I have the plug out of the hull and the bow raised high and it still drips a small amount of water. I did drain a bunch of water out of the space between the hull and deck before I transported her. She was parked bow slightly bow down down. I think water got in around inspection port as that is the only access to this space.
I also hosed out this space once I got the inspection port open. I am thinking there is some water logged foam inside? I may need to shove my blackberry in there and shoot some video to see what is inside.
This also held water on the deck/cockpit that has lead to small blisters where is stayed consistently wet. Not enough to grind it off and paint, but annoying none the less. The deck is self bailing with big ports in the transom that drain the entire deck surface.
