Spray on corrosion removers?

Post by Zach »

Hi guys, I'm looking over my mast today...

Wondering if there are any cool chemicals that knock back the corrosion on aluminum. My mast step and mast have become one piece, I want to get the step off so I can bolt it to the deck.

Thanks

CLR found in most stores should work , Have you tried a steel brush? either I'm going to have my boom powder coated or clear coat it.

A good automotive wax applied aften???

Zach,

I found that PB Blaster works great for separating aluminum and stainless so it should work with cast and extruded aluminum. Be careful, it eats rubber and many non-metal compounds so be careful where you spray. Give it a healthy does, give the step a few wacks with a hammer and return tomorrow to repeat.

Good Luck
