Looking for a good boat transport

Post by preserved_killick »

Anyone have any recommendations for someone who can transport boats over land in the Portland Maine area??

If I can get this boat finished here soon, I'll need to get it to the water.

Thanks,

Jeff

Thank you. That name is familiar somehow. I'll look him up.

That's good to know. After redoing the bootstripe and stripping the bottom to the gelcoat and applying to 2 - coats of bottom paint, the transporter I used was very rough putting my boat in the water. He managed to scrape off a big patch of the bootstripe on the starboard side and 3 - patches of the bottom paint on the port side. It easily could have been avoided. If it is appropriate, I can share his name.

I'll second the Steve Morse recommendation. He can be hard to get a hold of, but he is exceptionally professional and very conscientious.

The guy we bought our Cape Dory 36 from arranged transportation through Lockview Transport Co. out of Cayuga, New York. The boat was well prepped for transport and arrived in great condition. The owner/driver was very courteous and professional, too.

Their number and address (as of my '02 invoice) are:

6655 State Route 90 N
Cayuga, New York 13034
(315) 255-2936

Transport cost for the 600 mile trip from Ithaca, NY to MI was 1800.
