Boomaroo 22 / Catalina 22

Hi there.

A friend of mine's been looking for a first boat and we came across this one:

Since I've seen several people mention the C-22 I decided to ask:

1) Apart form being built in Australia are there important differences between the Catalina and the Boomaroo?

2) What's your experience with these boats?

Tiago, I assume that is your name, from Portugal no less. Welcome. I can't answer your question as I have no experience with either boat. I did enjoy looking at the add. I speak a smattering of Spanish and Portuguese and tried to get through the listing. Hopefully someone will be along to answer your question.

Hi Dave.

Yes, Tiago is my first name. It's the Portuguese equivalent to the English James.

American boats are not common around here given the amount of European boatbuilders, namely French and German, therefore my knowledge on the Catalinas is sub-minimal.

They are great boats, with lots of good stuff to talk about but also some items to consider depending on what keel arrangement you have - They come in swing, deep fin and wing keel designs, each with their peculiarities.

I owned a swing keel design and sailed it on local lakes - would not be happy to do extensive big water sailing with it though.
