Does it have wires leading to it? Looking at it I would guess an antenna of some sort, but there isn't much detail in the pics... Any words or names stamped on it?

I'm thinking the inside of a wind direction indicator.... Weather vane/ pointer missing...

I can't recall if there are two sets of wires leading from the mast or one. One is for the steaming/bow light, however.
There are no words on it. The top is flat with no attachment points.

Tossing it is a sure fire way to figure out why you needed it. My guess is that it is/was some sort of wind direction indicator.

I googled anenometers and am now guessing it was for a wind speed gauge.
