I am getting ready to attach an eyestrap and block on the front of my A30 mast for a whisker pole topping lift. Should I tap for the #10 machine screws required or use 3/16 SS pop rivets?
Thanks

Re: Screws vs rivets for spars
For a pole topping lift both ss rivets and threaded fasteners are fine. For higher loads on thin mast sections I'd think rivets are stronger. Rivets are faster but threaded is better if you ever want to remove them. Some small and cheap rivet guns fall apart trying to use them with stainless rivets so you might need a more heavy duty gun.

Re: Screws vs rivets for spars
Some people will disagree with this . I use brass screws , and insulate the best I can . IE .. Of course you must use Stainless parts , like your pole mount . I get some plastic (milk jug) and make a insulator , don't let the SS touch the Alu . and use brass screws . Corse threads are best . I would go 1/4-20 , after you tap the hole , clean it and use Tef-Gel on the screw , Loc-Tight works well also . Anti-Seize or grease work also . Good luck .
