Wow, Thanks for all the input! Tim, you are correct, I plan to mount preassembled panels in the plywood, not build a panel. There are many variables to consider, part of the issue is fitting a DC panel with adequate circuits in the space; I do want to have room for future expansion. I was thinking o...

Circuit breakers or fuses

I'm planning on modernizing my electrical panel on my CheoyLee this year and am gathering opinions before I call Jack Rabbit Marine and get their view (and hand over my hard earned coin!). I would like to replace my old 1-2-all switch with one of the new panels-Blue seas 8080- that allows more flexi...

Since I plan to run some new wire for the tri light, would you mind filling in a few more details on running the conduit? Do you pre drill the mast or drill as you go? How do you hold the conduit for rivetting? How about the steaming light wires? As you can tell this is one of those projects that I ...

Britton, Your 40 year old sea foam looks fine. I redid the cabin top and decks on our CL35 last year (outside,in the wettest spring ever...) in white with cream nonskid on the cabin top. I am really pleased with the look and it goes with most traditional colours. I'm sure it would look great on your...

Britton,
That is a great looking boat. I really like the colour. What kind of paint did you use and what is the name of the shade? There was a classic styled cruiser I saw in Nova Scotia a couple years ago a similar colour scheme that was also very sharp.

I have a similar set-up on my CheoyLee and re-did the chainplates two years ago. I took mine off to check the bolts and when I removed the chainplates themselves they were in poor condition. They looked fine on the visible side but against the knee were very corroded. The bolts were also ready to be...

Thanks for all the replies. Now, who would like to demonstrate their brushing technique on louvered doors? : ) I tried to get my wife involved but she had read Tom Sawyer...

Hi Northeast38,
I can't say that I know anyone in the market for a Roue20 but hopefully she will find a good home. Your Weatherbird is a real looker and appears in great shape. I always appreciate a source of inspiration as I plug away at refurbishing my Cheoylee. Best regards.

The Roue20 is indeed a beauty. I didn't think that the photo was of a Bluenose since it has a small cabin and my recollections are mostly of the wooden version with has a flush deck. In any case, Minuette,Mouette, or Bluenose, they are all pretty boats. Hey, Northest38, where do you keep your boat? ...

Hi, That looks like a MacVay Minuet. They built boats in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia in the 70's. I believe they also built a fiberglass version of the 23' Bluenose class sloop, the Westwind and Eastwind sloops as well as the Paceship line of sailboats. My first boat was a Paceship and I sail around the...

I installed a new Raymarine ST60 depthsounder in a couple years ago. Since the old one failed one week after launch I decided to mount it inside the hull using some ABS pipe filled with mineral oil. I just stuck the pipe on with 3M 4200 since it was just temporary... Works great! I'll probably knock...

Thanks for the tip. I'll stick with the Wood Finish Gloss for exterior only. I quite like the looks of it outside but it is a little soft and tends to scape easily. I may top coat that outside with Clear gloss for durability.

Great. I'm used to many coats of varnish on the exterior and wasn't looking forward to many coats on the interior as well. Those louvered doors look great but are a pain to varnish. 3 or 4 coats sounds reasonable.
Thanks for the advice

Hi Tim,
Do you use the rubbed effects for all the coats or do you topcoat the final coat after using gloss for buildup layers? BTW, It's a great site you run here.

Hello and a question about Interior varnish choices.

Before I get to the question I should mention that I am new to the forum. I've lurked here for a while and it seems that there are a lot of skilled and interesting folks here who share my enjoyment of messing around on boats. I sail and work on (or is it the other way around) a Bob Perry designed Ch...

I replaced some of my rigging last spring and will do the rest this spring. After much consideration and some free advice from Bob Perry ( designer of my CL35) I went with 316SS and Mi Mods which I got from Rigging Only. The staff at Rigging Only were great and very helpful. The Hi Mods were straigh...

Why not add extentions to the coamings for back support. I don't have a photo but I have seen pictures of Concordia yawls that had a 'ladderback" extention that stows in a locker but slips over the coaming when needed. A couple of those would be a nice shop project to pass a Montreal winter. If...

I see that you are located in PEI. If you get to Moncton, London Lumber (near the Airport) carries a variety of hardwood that may suit including Cumaru also known as Brazilian Teak. I haven't used any but depending on the project it may suit. You can Google it for more info. Also they have some dome...
