Bill, If you sheet that flag in a bit you're probably good for another half knot ;-) She looks just .... GREAT! That would make Bolero a Yawl wouldn't it? I am really starting to like sailing this boat. We have a few days of storms so I was hoping to get on the water today. I had a list of things I...

You need to watch those buoys though, with the bow over hang on a windless day with rollers they can batter the paint, although the spherical type don't seem to do that and I never had it happen with one of those, but the conical type like they have in Annapolis can do a number on you because the s...

Simply Amazing. Beautiful. Gorgeous. Humina humina! So... How does she sail? It will take some time to get use to this new boat. My initial impression is that Kristian is right on with his view. Here is a copy of a post from my blog where I go into a bit of detail about our first sail on Sunday. Bo...

Re: Neighbor!
I reiterate my comment previously. DROOOOLLL! I don't know where I've been, probably just looking at pictures and not reading, but I didn't realize you were a neighbor up in the islands. I hope I get to see her out there during one of my summer sails in the San Juans! CHEERS! (from Olympia) Drop me...

She looks absolutely beautiful, Is that a Lackey Sailing logo on the main? too cool! Sunday was great sailing down around Edmonds, did you take her out? Yes and Yes. That is a Lackey Sailing logo on the mainsail. It didn't seem appropriate for Bolero to continue wearing the Shields logo and Tim gra...

Yesterday was a fantastic conclusion to the Bolero fairytale. Although late, the launching went perfectly, as is usually the case with our lift operator Mitch. http://lh4.ggpht.com/wre1962/SN-J7QE_kYI/AAAAAAAAIes/f8pRlTyrxFs/s800/Bolero%202008%20Launching%20-%2009-27%20-%20054.jpg http://lh6.ggpht.c...

Well yesterday was a pretty good day. Got the mast up very, very quickly. Our lift operator, Mitch, is an artist. I still have a long list of things to do but we threw the sail up just to make sure there weren't any problems coming. http://lh4.ggpht.com/wre1962/SN4omkX7oTI/AAAAAAAAIPo/qNMdtq-Mpg4/s8...

I have been having so much fun that I just haven't had much time for posting. Bolero is coming along nicely. I started off yesterday pretty early unwrapping her from her trip. Tim did a fine job of prepping her for shipping. It probably took me about an hour to remove all the strapping and protectiv...

Bolero Delivery and Launching
Bolero is now home on Lopez. She came over on the 6:50 pm ferry so I still haven't really had a look at her. I guess I can wait one more day. Sorry for the poor quality of the picture. Much better ones to come during rigging and launching. http://lh3.ggpht.com/wre1962/SNnNJRWEtsI/AAAAAAAAIKA/I4GF8kC...

Ireland Vaction Boat Pics
We just returned from a three week trip to Wales and Ireland. The purposed reason for going was to attend the International Supreme and World Sheepdog Trials but I just had to wonder around any old harbor that we happened across. These photos are from Kinsale, Spiddal and Kinvara in Ireland. Enjoy, ...

If I ever save enough money I would do exactly what you did. Plus, you have already done the research for me :) As you a probably discovering with your cabin modification idea, it isn't the research that is hard it is the discipline. I think what made this idea work was a laser sharp focus on the v...

Re: Tensioned fabric building for boat shelter
Here's a photo of my newly erected boat shelter made by Clearspan. The building is 40' long x 18' wide x 16' high. My Alberg 30 fits nicely with 10' at the back for a work bench and plenty of room around the sides to work on the toe rail, etc. The lighting through the fabric is very pleasant. It sh...

Bill, OK, Can you even sleep? If I had a boat looking like Bolero does now I would find it hard to concentrate on anything. I'll let Tim take the credit for being a genius. Ideas are a dime a dozen, implentation is where genius gets to shine. I will say that my last boat had the oar locks mounted on the coaming. It was a terrible solution. No where near strong enough and the oar handle was too close to the oar lock so th...

Nice looking boat. Have you tried Uship before. You can post the load and various shippers will bid on it. Well I haven't tried Uship before, but I am in the process of trying it now. Thanks everyone for the advice and info. We are required, by law, to have a hard shelled 24 inch mooring ball. In addition we are no longer allowed to use chain on the bottom. Our current approved system is a screw anchor into the bottom with a 1 inch nylon line with a submerged float and a short le...

Mooring Advice
I have been keeping my boat on a mooring for the past three season and I have a few issues that I would appreciate some advice on. First, quite often the combination of wind and current pushes or traps my boat against the mooring ball. Sometimes this results in a tangled mooring line and abrasion be...

Are people so averse to knots, bends, hitches, and splices that that they really buy those little plastic doo-hickies in the marine catalogs? Seriously any of those methods cost nothing, look good, are well proven, and won't knock you out if a flogging sheet hits your head. Just make the splice it ...

I am really enjoying this discussion. Thanks everyone. I prefer to reef while sailing and heeled rather than luffing into the wind.
