Caulk adhesion at wood and gelcoat joint

We have a wooden cap rail that goes over the bulwark and topsides joint. It is not removeable at this timeframe. We stripped and sanded the varnish off all the exposed surfaces of the cap rail and dug out the dried up caulk underneath the edge of the cap rail between the wood and the gelcoat. Our qu...

Re: All About Marine Crimping

Thanks so much for your great reference site. I have it bookmarked and are referring to it regularly in the retro of our boat. Pictures are amazing and the step by step that you outline for the various projects is invaluable!!

Re: thru hull elimination

Thanks for your inputs so far. I do agree with not storing stinky water in the boat Rachael. I think we are leaning towards keeping most of the existing holes. The good news is that I have managed to contort my body into all kinds of weird positions to remove all of the old seacocks, thru hulls and ...

thru hull elimination

Hey all. We are at the point in our refit where I have removed all the old thru hulls with the idea of replacement. So.........now is the time to think about the number of holes in the hull. Does anyone have any feedback on whether to keep the original design which basically had an opening for each ...

Thanks for the update.

Thanks for the update Peter. I too live in a cooler climate but the boat will make its way south at some point in the future. I have her gutted of all electrical and plumbing and am about to embark on the cleaning and prep work for painting. Primary interest will be inside of closets, under cushions...

Electonic repairs

Hi all, In the process of upgrading our P40, the old radar is next on the list. Does anyone know of a good electronics guy here in the new england area, Maine, VT or NH or Mass......that could help us to troubleshoot our older Furuno 1720 unit?
Thanks in advance....

Hi Tim....yes...you are correct in that after the fact we wish that we had left some additional space along the sides. This was a monster to put up and we were pretty tight on beam space in the first place so making it wider also would have meant that we would have wanted to make it taller...As you ...

Rachel.....thanks for the links. It sounds like this is an ongoing problem which is why I thought you all might have some good answers. Here is a link to our ship shed, which I know from reading other posts here, is a very interesting topic.

Cleaning the bilge

Hi everyone......we are new to the site and hope to be able to gain some new ideas as well as contribute some of our own tips and tricks. We have a 1984 Passport that is in the process of a refit. She's inside of a shelter that we constructed behind my shop here in Vermont. On the slate is removal o...
