Re: Can anyone identify this winch please

The cable was renewed by the previous owner. I am reluctant to strip down the winch as it does work at the moment and I can raise and lower the foil. But as I said it's operation does not strike me as normal and there may be some lurking problem which requires spare parts or some arcane adjustment. ...

Re: Can anyone identify this winch please

I suspect that this was a halyard winch for a wire halyard rather than a trailor sailor winch. I have had a couple of trailor sailors and the winches were much smaller and looked less expensive. This is a pretty serious lump of bronze and looks very well engineered. BTW the boat is a 44 foot ex IOR ...

Can anyone identify this winch please

I have this winch fitted to my 1978 Bombay Explorer. It lifts and lowers the swing keel on a wire. Can anyone identify the make for me please. As far as I can see there are no numbers or letters anywhere but I have not dismantled it. [ I am a founder member of the 'If it aint broke don't fix it' clu...

Just had a look at the specs, that should do the trick nicely. Now I just need to find some in St Marten.

Thank you for the steer.

I need to make a shower door

The previous owner removed the door so I need to make a new one. This shower will only be used very occaisionaly as a shower as the boat has another much larger shower and loo I anticipate the door will be open and pinned back to the left of the opening for most of its life. I want the door to open ...

Re: Looking at a Bombay Explorer 44

Well I got cold feet over the deck, looked at other boats but kept thinking just how good this looked on the water so I changed my mind, negotiated a reduction and now own a Bombay 44.

Re: How bad is this?

Thanks for the input. The surveyor is an old guy, very experienced and highly qualified but appeared to want a GF expert to give a second opinion before he committed himself to an opinion. The boat was built in Key Largo Florida but who knows how experienced or meticulous the layup guys were. I do n...

How bad is this?

I am looking at a 78 New Bombay Explorer, the 44 footer. I am assuming it has a balsa cored plastic deck. There are several areas where there is regular cracking of the non skid areas. In some cases the cracks extend into the sourrounding smooth deck. The deck does not feel soft nor does it crackle....

Looking at a Bombay Explorer 44

I am looking at a Bombay Explorer 44 with a center board. I can find very little information about this boat. I know they were built in Southern Florida between 1975 and 1979 and recent sales show some changing hands for as little a 25k others in CA before the slump at over 100k. bombay 44.jpg Does ...
