Don't worry about which one to get. In six months your new one will be so obsolete as to make you want to throw it in the ocean in disgust - and new and better ones will be prizes in every box of Cracker Jacks... do they still make Cracker Jacks? Really though, I would agree that Garmins are good. E...

So let me say that anything I say about it is just what *I* saw, and may not be accurate ... I'd say you have seen more boats over the last couple of months than most and probably know the market better than many. I would take your word for it. the UV cover for the roller-furled jib was covered in ...

Hi George, Old threads never die. I would say you won't want to trailer an A30. Let the big boys handle it. They have the insurance, the permits and the tow rigs. It would be much cheaper to haul your boat somewhere once a year than buy a trailer and tow vehicle and keep them maintained. A30s hold m...

Yeah, I don't know what I was thinking when I started this thread. Of course mahogony is the only way to go. Silly me. I remember reading the tribulations of your (Tim's) anchor platform as it was happening. Under the circumstances you experienced I don't suppose there is any wood that would not hav...

I thought about the rot issue but I was thinking there is pretty good drainage in that application so it wouldn't be a big issue. The more I think of it though, the more I want the mahogony. It is just an aesthetic issue. Mahogony looks better. My local boat crowd favor wooden boats with a ... shall...

Mahogony anchor platform stock
I was looking for some stock for a mahogony anchor platform locally and I found some but I can only get it in eight foot lengths. I think it was about 27 board feet for $250 plus tax. Is there anyone else that would want to split a plank with me? I am toying with the idea of using about four feet wh...

Thanks for hosting the pictures Tim, I would have to agree that that is a pretty amazing method of tying a shroud to the hull. Now Joe, where exactly do your shrouds attach too? #668 doesn't have the forward shroud?... Interesting. I would have thought that mine (only twelve boats later in the 'assembly' line) came with double shrouds from the factory because all the chainplates are of identical manufacture and installation. It could be that they were all changed at a later...

I think I read somewhere that the forward shrouds really are not needed and they were added just to make owners feel better. I don't know if that is true but having the extra set does make me feel better. My late model Triton (#680) has the forward shroud attached to a chainplate identical to the af...

I thought I had your answer until you said you were reluctant to use West System. Why would that be? I was going to suggest epoxy with a sandable filler added. I agree about the A30. I spent a long time looking for one. I love the extra space but they appear to cost about twice as much as a similar condition Triton. As Tim says, the glass over the chainplate knees is pretty thick and is what is handling the loads from the chainplates. The wood just gives the shape to mold the fiberglass to. Ah the fun of buying a budget boat :-) It doesn't get any better than this! I am not the A4 guy Tim mentions but a brown oily streak coming from the exhaust would not be from an overly rich mixture.
