Re: Does bottom paint go bad?
Well, I went to pick up the paint this afternoon. The cans were a little rusty, but looked ok. I opened one, and there was nothing like 'cottage cheese' in it so I paid for them and took them to my friend at the paint store. He warned me that the shaker would generate heat in the paint (apparently t...

I have a line on 2 gallons of Pettit Horizons bottom paint for a real good price. The paint is about 5 years old. IIRC, bottom paint is ok as long as it has not frozen.... any way to tell? It is not possible to refuel this lamp. You are to either discard it, or keep it for decoration. Bill, Is there any chance you could clamp a pair of needle nose vice grips onto the cable right were it enters the hub and try tapping on the handle to 'push' the cable in? Yes,
Especially concerning is that some scavenger may buy her for parts... with the yanmar (and a spare!) she may well be worth more then asking price in parts alone.

I would first try denatured alcohol. It works great, and is pretty tame.
Then I would go to thinner... if that does not work use acetone.

It is helpful to have water supplies segregated. When taking on water, I like to be able to have 'good' and 'best' in separate tanks if I can. It seems to me (disclaimer) that the loads from the vang are likely much lower then mid-boom sheeting. The vang is just pulling down, not taking the full impact of shock loads from a 'crash' jibe. Re: Loose Footed VS. Attached foot sail
Faith has a loose footed, full batten main. Like the others, I would not go back. One consideration (for some) is the type of sheeting and the heft of your boom. If you have a smallish extrusion, and mid boom sheeting , you might be careful since the loose foot may impose a greater load on the boom.
