Returning from the Cave and System 3 LPU and Clear Coat
Greetings everyone! I have been hiding in a cave the past year or two, so I hope I am not barking up the wrong tree with this one. I am restoring a 1974 fiberglass canoe (I am considering putting in a mast mount), but rather than go off and overkill the paint, I am considering System 3 water based L...

Re: Another outstanding bad boat name
I refuse to call it OCD anymore. Simply Unacceptable. It is CDO.I apologize in advance for the lack of picture, but I saw a ~25' cabin runabout last night named:
Oh-Sea-Dee
It did appear to be quite clean.
(it absolutely must be alphabetized)

I thought he said "I am in charge here"? Anyway, sailboats don't do well in tunnels. As General Haig said, 'There's light at the end of the tunnel.'

Re: Choey Lee at Fortman Marina
Not to disagree with Tim, but I do not think these are exactly the same vessel, though they could be different years or some other minor variant. If you look at the companionway at the forward part of the cockpit you will see it is not centered but offset to starboard. This is as it was on the boat ...

Re: Choey Lee at Fortman Marina
This boat looks nearly identical to a 40ish' boat I worked on in Florida years ago (I believe the boat was out of Dog River Marina in Mobile, AL). I really liked the boat but don't remember the model. Funny how some details stick out and others don't. The boat had not been well maintained (inside or...

Re: A fiberglass canoe question
Somehow I though it was. The color card I was looking at online had it as just a shade or so grayer than the back ground on your avatar, but about as dark. I just wasn't looking for something quite that bright. I do believe this is the paint I want to use, but I will have to consider another color. ...

Drew, I would call that relevant information. So what alternative would you consider for an epoxy pot? Would something like this be ok? http://images.lowes.com/product/converted/098262/098262225002md.jpg And what type of roller did you use? Foam? What alternatives are there to this? And one more que...

Re: A fiberglass canoe question
Thanks for the replies. After what was posted, I studied the material and came across the same comment. Looks like this is what I am look for. And I like the Shaw Blue for the hull; in my opinion a near perfect color for a canoe. I have a couple of questions for those who have used this product. It ...

A fiberglass canoe question
Before I begin, let me say, I am back from the depths of the black lagoon. It's good to be back. I recently inherited an old fiberglass canoe--just what I need, another boat that needs work (please don't tell my wife). I can only guess it is 40 or so years old, as it came to our family used sometime...

Insurance value of a boat is a tricky thing. I am not an expert, but I did see the fallout of this following Hurricanes Ivan, Dennis and Katrina. Much of this is what I heard from talking to owners, friends, businesses and insurance adjusters (one couple sailed in from Houston and lived aboard for 2...

Look at this latest predicted track. If this is accurate, Fay could make 5 (that's five landfalls in the state of Florida. It's like a buzzing fly that you just can't shew away. I'm not sure if I am honored or irritated that I live so close to the final expected landfall.... http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/...

I strongly recomend 3M Citrus Cleaner. http://www.partsexpress.com/imageslarge/350-340L.jpg We used to use this on most every job we had in the shipyard, as the (business) owner refused to buy the #225 longmask tape. Interesting to read that. Any idea how well it would work on mahogany? I presume not as well, as teak has such a high oil content to begin with, and mahogany does not. What is a kee-stepped mast?
I was wandering aimlessly through ads and I came across a listing describing a: ...kee-stepped aluminum mast. I may have actually been on this particular boat (or it's sister) a few years ago. It is a Durbeck D-46, a unique vessel built in Florida in the early-mid 70's. I did some searches on "...

It is kind of plain to work with (no pun intended), not unlike pine. It is very soft and does not stain evenly (sanding sealer helps). Very light color. Dave, I am not knocking you for using treated wood, and I certainly understand the necessity of taking cost into account. I pay about 3.00 bf for cypress at the local mill. So, an impeller, a thermostat, a lot of cleaning, all new cooling hoses, and several sessions of practicing sailing into the slip later, I'm inclined to blame a $3.00 gasket. Yes, but you feel so much more secure knowing you have those new hoses, thermostat and impeller not to mention your advanced...
