I seem to have accidentally posted this twice...
Well, my original launch date was the 11th. There was no way I was going to make that date, cabin sole or no. Unfortunately, the 6th of June was the first day after the 26th of May (Heather's graduation) that he could put me in.

I'll see your bumped launch date and raise you a REALLY embarrassing bonehead move;
I finally got around to setting the idle with the new fuel system. Well, TRYING to set the idle. I couldn't get it to idle below 1100. As soon as it dropped to anything approaching an idle speed, it would just cut out and die. After a bunch of headscratching, thinking that the idle jet couldn't POSSIBLY be plugged ALREADY, it occurred to me that perhaps I had the oil pressure regulator set too low, that insufficient pressure at idle was cutting power to the fuel pump.
but then.... wait a sec... I remember sucking the oil out last fall. Did I ever refill it?
NO.

Luckily we are talking Atomic Fours and they don't really need little details like lubrication. Since you didn't REALLY start cussing I am going to assume the engine is okay.
Based on a work history in aviation I have learned... Always, always, always, check the oil before starting the engine. After years and years of training it has become just a habit of mine to randomly pull up dipsticks and check them. One of my many charming quirks now.

NO.
Nathan had a unique (and effective) way of remembering to re-add oil to his engine the other winter. He might have a picture, though it's not necessarily family-oriented.

Ah, Britton and his charming quirks!
No, no lasting damage of course. There was enough oil in the sump to make 25psi at 1500rpm. The only way to change ALL the oil from an A4 is to pull the cover plate from the gearbox, and I've never been THAT motivated.
Interesting to note that the engine would REALLY have to bugger itself in order for the oil pressure safety switch to come into play.
